Note: "Postsecondary" includes degree granting institutions. Recognition of The Accrediting Commission by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is for postsecondary programs purposes only. Since the authority of the U.S. Secretary is statutorily limited to postsecondary institutions in the United States, this federal recognition encompasses only DETC accreditation in the U.S.A. DETC does not extend accreditation to “certification programs,” but only to distance learning courses and programs that prepare individuals to sit for independently-administered certification examinations.
