NASASPS Offers Online Compliance Training
The National Association of State Administrators and Supervisors of Private Schools (NASASPS), the association of State regulators that DETC has strongly supported over the past 40 years, has sponsored the development of a new online training course for private school compliance staff. Staff members at DETC accredited institutions have the chance to enroll at a reduced rate in this timely and informative course.
This 4-hour online training course covers effective communications with students and how to interpret laws and regulations. Lessons include information on Federal Department of Education Program Integrity rules and State Regulations, as well as other agencies’ impact on student communications (e.g., Federal Trade Commission guidelines).
The course is designed to familiarize school employees with the requirements to which they must adhere in order to maintain good standing with both state and federal regulators, and provide an awareness of prohibited acts which could adversely impact your institution’s operations. Areas of emphasis include misrepresentation related to advertising and recruitment activities, interactions with prospective students, and appropriate communication of disclosures and other publications.
"With the avalanche of new Federal and State regulations affecting higher education, it’s important for all DETC members’ staff who communicate with students to be aware of what is required by laws today," said DETC Executive Director Michael Lambert, "and this NASASPS-sponsored course serves as an effective way to ensure that your institution will be well-versed in appropriate, rule-compliant communications."
The online course, CM102—Compliant Communications with Students, is available via the NASASPS Online Training Center. Institutions can purchase “enrollment keys” on the course site by using the special VIP Code DE2020 that has been assigned to DETC members. Each key is valid for one enrollment, and the price per key (with the DETC VIP Code) ranges from to $115 to $129, depending on purchase volume. Further information and instructions are available on the course site.
