Senate Issues Report on the Emerging Risk
of For-Profit Education
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions released a report June 24 detailing growth, spending, student debt and “unanswered questions” in for-profit higher education.
The report, which draws on publicly available information to shed light on the scope of the Federal investment in for-profit schools and how these schools are using those taxpayer dollars, seeks to “identify gaps in available information about enrollment, student performance, and loan debt and repayment—gaps that gaps that impede effective oversight.”

Department of Ed Lays Down Law on Kindle eReader Usage
The United States Department of Education and Department of Justice have just issued a reminder calling for colleges and universities—as well as K-12 school districts—to make sure devices such as e-readers that are required in the classroom comply with accessibility laws. The federal action came on the heels of a settlement agreement made by Justice with five institutions that were running Amazon Kindle e-book readers as pilot programs. According to the agencies, Kindle devices aren't accessible to students who are blind or have low vision.
