Western Regional Meeting Registration Now Open!
The Distance Education and Training Council is happy to announce registration now is open for the regional meeting in Irvine, California for DETC institutions and applicants! The meeting, hosted by California Southern University, will take place Wednesday, September 19, 2012. The DETC Regional Meeting at California Southern University in Irvine will feature updates on the Washington scene and on DETC activities from Michael Lambert as well as an update from a representative of California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education. Also, each attendee will have the opportunity to give a brief report on their institution. Don't delay -- the registration deadline is Thursday, September 7th!

Register Now for the 2012 DETC Fall Workshop!
The Distance Education and Training Council's 2012 Fall Workshop will take place October 14-16, 2012 at the Eldorado Hotel & Spa in Santa Fe, NM. The Fall Workshop is an excellent opportunity to interact with colleagues, reconnect with friends, and learn from some of the foremost experts in the distance education field via two days of information-rich workshop sessions. Graduates of For-Profits and Community Colleges Fare About the Same in Earnings Study
Students who earn an associate degree at a for-profit institution see similar increases in their earnings to those of students who go to a community college, according to the preliminary results of a working paper released recently by the National Bureau of Economic Research.

2012 DoD Worldwide Education Symposium Recap
The 2012 DoD Worldwide Education Symposium took place July 23-27 at the MGM Grand and The Signature at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Salute to Possibilities: Paving the Way for Our Military Community." The Department of Defense’s Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Educational Support (DANTES) hosted the event. The theme for WW12, was Educating the Force - Joint Effort, Joint Success, and it explored strategies to effectively deliver voluntary education programs that enhance the Service member's capacity to serve while enabling them to improve their quality of life.

DETC Executive Director to be Interviewed on Higher Education Talk Radio September 10
DETC's Executive Director, Mike Lambert, will be featured on the Monday, September 10th broadcast of Higher Education Talk Radio. Visit the Higher Education Talk Radio website at 10:00 a.m. to listen live as Mr. Lambert talks with Mr. Larry Jacobs, host of the popular internet radio show. After the interview, the show will be available on the site for on-demnad listening.
Also, you can visit the Higher Education Talk Radio archives to listen to a recording of Mr. Lambert's first visit to the show, where he discusses the role DETC plays in higher education and how consumers can make wise choices when selecting an online school or college. |
