DETC Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Policy Revisions
At its most recent meeting, the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council gave its final approval to several changes and revisions to DETC Standards, Procedures and Policies. In addition, the Commission issued a call for comment regarding several other proposed changes.

The 2011 DETC Fall Workshop will take place October 16-18, 2011 at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. You can visit the meeting website for more information on reserving a hotel room, registering for the meeting, and the Fall Workshop's Proposed Program.

Regional Meeting To Take Place September 8, 2011
The Distance Education and Training Council is happy to announce registration now is open for the regional meeting in Irvine, California for DETC institutions and applicants! The meeting, hosted by California Southern University, will take place Thursday, September 8, 2011. The meeting will feature updates on the Washington scene and on DETC activities from Michael Lambert as well as an update from a representative of California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education.

DETC Executive Director Helps Explain Accreditation in New Video
Recently, DETC Executive Director Mike Lambert participated in a wide-ranging interview discussing topics ranging from Washington's current attitude regarding accreditation to the benefits of the for-profit model of education and what makes DETC accreditation stand out.
The purpose of the interview, produced in conjunction with California Southern University in Irvine, CA, and conducted by Mr. Thomas Dellner, CalSouthern’s Editor of University Publications, was to dispel some misconceptions about DETC accreditation and to explore what is happening in accreditation today.

Registration Announced for Presidents' Forum
The Presidents' Forum, hosted by Excelsior College, provides both traditional and non-traditional institutions the opportunity to exchange knowledge and perceptions of current models and tools for successful operation in an online environment. This year, the Forum’s annual meeting theme will center on “Charting a Course for Online Higher Education Through Rough Seas.” Given all of the recent regulatory and oversight interest from many quarters, the Forum will focus on addressing the question, “Are we content with where we are at present?”

APSCU Sues to Block Gainful Employment
The Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU), on behalf of its more than 1,650 member institutions, filed a lawsuit July 20 in the federal District Court in Washington, DC seeking to block the Department of Education's final “Gainful Employment” regulations. APSCU's complaint asserts the regulations represent regulatory overreach, conflict with congressional intent, were developed through a flawed process, and implemented without adequately exploring the impact on minorities, women, and jobs.
