DETC is pleased to announce it has retained a new DETC Legal Counsel: Ms. Elise Scanlon, of the Drinker Biddle law firm in Washington, DC.She will be only the third legal counsel in the Council’s 84-year history.
Ms. Scanlon replaces Joseph C. Luman, who recently retired after a brilliant 23-year career with DETC.
“I have known Elise for more than 17 years, and have long admired her acumen, intelligence and skills in analysis and communications,” said DETC Executive Director Michael Lambert. “She has more than 20 years’ experience in accreditation, and served for nine years as the Executive Director of the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges, a recognized national accrediting association with which DETC has worked closely since its founding in 1966.”
In addition to her considerable relevant experience in accreditation, higher education law and Washington connections, Ms. Scanlon also will be able to call on the resources of a major law firm for the Council’s legal needs.
“We could not be happier Elise has accepted the appointment as the DETC legal counsel,” said DETC Accrediting Commission Chair Mr. Tim Mott. “She is well versed in the myriad challenging issues the Commission is facing, and she will be able to hit the ground running.”
Ms. Scanlon will be attending the DETC’s 84th Annual Conference next month. To learn more about her experience and history in the legal field, visit the Drinker Biddle Web site at http://www.drinkerbiddle.com/escanlon/.
