The National Career Readiness Certificate verifies to employers anywhere in the United States that an individual has essential core employability skills in Reading, Math, and Locating Information. The Certificate is an easily understood, conveniently attained, and universally valued workforce credential—job seekers and students in more than 30 states can provide proof they have the skills and skill levels to meet the challenges of today’s workplace. Employers, career seekers, economic developers and educators use the certificate as a common language to improve the quality of the workforce.
The NCRC is based on WorkKeys, a job skills assessment system measuring “real world" skills critical to job success. These skills are valuable for any occupation—skilled or professional—and at any level of education. WorkKeys is used by schools, colleges, adult education centers, workforce centers and businesses and other entities involved in preparing individuals for success in today’s economy.
Mr. Thomas S. Kilijanek, Ph.D., has been involved in the training and education field for more than 30 years, focused on linking research results to pragmatic decision-making for both individuals and organizations. He is a WorkKeys Regional Manager with ACT, Inc., currently responsible for WorkKeys in a number of Western States. Prior to his position at ACT, Tom held positions in the research, design, development, and delivery of training programs in management skills, emergency responses, and interpersonal communication.
Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Tom now lives with his wife and daughter in Elizabeth, Colorado. Tom received his B.A. from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI, and his Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Denver. His field of study was and continues to be sociology, with an emphasis in complex organizations and research.
